HIGH ON LIF E
There’s a particular magic to Sunday nights in Melbourne during the Grand Prix weekend. The city hums with a residual thrill, engines cooled but hearts still racing. The question, though, is what to do after the chequered flag waves?
Enter Matty Loe, the mastermind behind the GP Drivers Afterparty, a gathering that has become as iconic as the race.
The GP Drivers Afterparty is no ordinary celebration. It’s a melting pot where the world of Motorsport meets Melbourne’s nightlife, uniting drivers, celebrities, and fans. “It’s about energy,” Matty shares. “People want to let their hair down and celebrate the end of an incredible weekend. My goal is to create a vibe that captures the spirit of the city and the sport.”
THE MAN BEHIND THE MAGIC
Matty Loe’s journey to becoming a central figure in Melbourne’s Grand Prix festivities is as dynamic as the event he curates. As a boy, Matty spent Sunday nights watching the Grand Prix with his father, their love for racing forging an unbreakable bond. “We’d sit on the couch, cheering for legends like Senna and Prost,” he recalls with a nostalgic smile.
Years later, Matty’s childhood passion found its stage. From sneaking into the Grand Prix paddock to rubbing shoulders with drivers and team personnel, his path has been a mix of boldness and serendipity. “I was lucky enough to meet incredible people like Keith Sutton, the founder of Sutton Images,” he explains. “Those connections opened doors and gave me the chance to turn my passion into something extraordinary.”
In 2016 Matty launched the GP Drivers Afterparty at Melbourne’s Club 23. “That first year was unforgettable,” he says. “We had over 800 people, including drivers and team personnel. Fernando Alonso even came after his massive crash that day. Seeing him unwind with Esteban Gutierrez over shots was surreal.”
THE ART OF NETWORKING
Matty’s network is a dazzling mosaic of extraordinary connections, captured in countless candid photos documenting his remarkable journey. Hollywood superstars like Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Renée Zellweger stand beside him, while cultural icons such as Ted Danson and Henry Winkler add charm to the mix.
Racing royalty, including Niki Lauda, Sir Jackie Stewart, and Nelson Piquet Jr, share moments with Matty, as do modern racing icons like Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez, Yuki Tsunoda, and Guenther Steiner. Sports legends like Chris Gayle and Brian Lara find their place in his network alongside racing greats like Bruno Senna and Giancarlo Fisichella.
The smiling doesn’t stop there. Supermodels such as Megan Gale and Miss Universe winners appear in his orbit, as do musical icons like the Black Eyed Peas. Business visionaries, including Richard Branson, George Lucas, and Horacio Pagani, extend Matty’s connections to innovation, creativity and enterprise.
Even royalty graces his story, with His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco sharing moments that are as memorable as they are
unique. Each name represents the people Matty has met and the vibrant, unforgettable life he leads.
SUCCESS REDEFINED
For Matty, success is defined by your values. “It’s about satisfaction and integrity,” he explains. “Your reputation is everything. It stands before you and behind you.”
His philosophy is rooted in personal growth. “The most important competition is with yourself. Success is a mental game, and it’s about pushing your limits while staying true to your values.”
Matty’s humility and vision have made him a respected figure. His events aren’t just parties but cultural touch points that unite people to celebrate the extraordinary.
BEYOND MELBOURNE
Matty’s ambitions extend beyond Melbourne. The possibilities are endless, with 24 races on the Grand Prix calendar. Suggesting a global takeover…
“I’m exploring events in Monaco, Singapore, Miami, and Abu Dhabi,” he reveals. “It’s a challenge, but I believe in pushing boundaries. Life’s about stepping out of your comfort zone.”
His approach is as on point as it is innovative. “You don’t change the recipe; you improve the flavour,” he says.
“Each event is an opportunity to refine and elevate the experience, whether through partnerships, entertainment, or unique themes.”
IT ONLY GETS BETTER
Looking ahead, Matty envisions even greater heights for the GP Drivers Afterparty. “If budget weren’t an issue, I’d bring in major international artists, have racing cars hanging from the ceiling, and create fully interactive experiences,” he says. But for now, he remains focused on perfecting his craft. “It’s about making each year better than the last.”
As the GP Drivers Afterparty continues to evolve, one thing is sure: Matty Loe’s blend of passion, creativity, and authenticity will keep it at the forefront of Melbourne’s Grand Prix celebrations.
If you haven’t met Matty yet, then it’s time for you to be part of a story as compelling as the races themselves.
